A survey team from CARF International will be visiting North Star Community Services on May 14-16, 2025, to evaluate the services we provide and to provide a continuation of accreditation.  Since 1986, North Star Community Services has been proud to be accredited for our services through CARF International.  But what exactly is CARF?

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF International, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

Accreditation is the process that demonstrates a provider like North Star meets the standards for the quality of its services.  These standards guide an organization in offering their services and also use the standards to evaluate how well a provider is serving people and how it can improve.

To be accredited, North Star invites a team of CARF International surveyors to visit our location and evaluate our services for quality.  The surveyors are peers who work in the same or similar field.  The surveyors will be consulting with staff members and interviewing people who receive our services, their families/guardians, and others.  Accreditation is based on the surveyor’s findings but demonstrates commitment to programs and services that are measurable, accountable and of the highest quality.
